>Now and Then

>Today I worked from home and Jack was a rock star, taking naps, playing, essentially making everything easy. However, he is also working on perfecting the art of sliding off my lap. He just can’t quite crawl or run away. So today I let him slide off my lap and end up under my desk, in front of box full of train parts. He was sort of standing, sort of being supported by my knees. It reminded me of baby Luke, and how he used to be able to casually walk under the dining room table without ducking, or hitting his head. I have vivid memories of those days, and every once in a while when I see Luke standing next to the table I think about him as a baby and I remember when… Anyway, Dave came in and said, “Cute. We should get the camera so later we can say, “Remember when he used to be able to stand under the desk” like we do with Luke and the dining room table.”

So here is Luke, not standing, probably quite a bit older than Jack is now, but under the table:

And here is Jack today, starring in one of many of my future memories:

>Nap time

>

Bean was very unhappy when Luke was born. He let us know this by pooping on the floor of Luke’s room. Gradually, and begrudingly he grew to tolerate his new brother. But that was the extent of it. Maybe Bean is just beyond caring, but he seems happier with his new brother Jack.

It almost seems like Bean misses Jack when Jack is taking a nap.

Bean just wants to be close to Jack, so he snuggles with Jacks toys.

Or maybe poor Bean is just finding a way to deal with the fact that Jack’s toys now cover the entire 6×8 rug that represents the only area in Bean’s part of the house that isn’t hard wood. Poor Bean.

>April Showers May Flowers

>If April showers
Bring May Flowers
Then May snow
I don’t know…
Sorta blows.

In other news, my first full month of blogging produced 23 posts. As 23 is the cosmic number, that makes me happy. I’ll try not to let my current obsession with Deadwood interfere too much. Although I can see that happening. We have watched 6 episodes since Sunday.

>Did You Ever Wonder

>Luke: Mom, if a tree grew up underneath my bed, would it push the bed up, or break the bed into pieces?
Me: I think it would push the bed up.
Luke: No, I think it would break it into pieces.

Daddy: What’s wrong, Jack? You don’t like having your diaper changed?
Jack: (Grabs pacifier out of mouth and throws it aside.) Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga!

>Modern Man

>”Mommy, if you are still alive when I am an adult, will you come watch me race my dirt bike and cheer for me?”

“Of course!”

“You can sit with Ruby, most of my races will probably be after she gets off work so she can come watch.”

I love how Luke is planning for a two career family. This is a little discussion that combines two of his interests: death (specifically mine) and a future marriage to Ruby.

>Bedtime Procrastination

>It was probably mostly motivated by the desire to procrastinate, but Luke and I had a good talk about the new baby the other night. It started with a “I don’t like having my room downstairs.” And ended with, “When John Paul and I both have rooms downstairs, he might come in my room and we can talk after bedtime.” In the middle there was some of this, “I wish he would come out right now an be the same size as me.” To which I could only reply, “Ouch.”

>Warren Miller

>
We took Luke to his first Warren Miller movie this week. Back in the day we always kicked off the ski season with several bottles of beer and Warren Miller’s latest movie about extreme skiing. Back in the day it seemed a lot tamer, just maybe heli-skiing and triggering an avalanche and staying just ahead of it. Maybe it had something to do with imagining my 4 year old trying some of the tricks, but I think putting on a little parachute and skiing/flying down the Eiger is a little crazy.

The next morning, Dave said, “Luke if you are skiing and you come to the edge of a cliff, what are you NOT going to do?”

He said, “I am not going to go around it.”

>Ruby’s Baby

>Luke asked if he’d be there when the baby was born, and I said no, he’d be at the Runkels and he is going to come visit after the baby is born. He said, “Well I will get to see a baby be born. I’ll see Ruby’s baby be born.” Since Ruby’s mom is pregnant, and due right after me and having a home birth, I figured Ruby would be there for the birth and maybe she had mentioned it to Luke.” I said, “Oh, did Ruby invite you to he baby brother or sister’s birth?”

He said, “NO! Ruby and I are getting MARRIED. And I will BE THERE when OUR baby is born.”

>So many pictures

>I asked Luke if he thought he might like to hold the baby and sit on Santa’s lap. (Already trying to figure out this year’s Christmas card.) And he said sure. And, “If I am holding the baby on Santa’s lap, they will want to take so many pictures of us.” Like, “I know how cute I am, imagine how cute I’ll be holding a baby.”
